Another day, another tutorial.
Okay, let's get started immediately shall we folks? Since I already blogged at LRW's, I shall now just blog a tutorial here. I wonder which shall I blog about? *thinks hard*
Okay, first one. How to turn ridiculously ugly and grainy blur scans into better looking brighter ones. Simple. I'll try making it simple. If you have a blur image(Like one taken from a phone-cam), and want to make it clearer, this will help a bit, I suppose.
Step 1: Grab your scan/image, whether you've extracted it from another image or something and copy it onto another new canvas.
Step 2: With your scan/image selected, press Ctrl+J twice.
Step 3: On the copy above the original, as in the second one. Go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur and set it to at least 4.0 to 5.0.
Step 4: Still with the same layer selected, change its transparency to Overlay.
Step 5: Select the topmost layer, and simply change it's transparency to Color.
Step 6: Either Flatten your image, or select the topmost layer and press Ctrl+E until all layers are merged. Depends on which you chose to do, results will vary.
Now, does it still look grainy? If yes, repeat the steps, only use a lesser amount when doing Gaussian Blur, about 2.0 or 3.0 I suppose. Hopefully that was helpful. (works for me, i'm not sure about you though @@")
Okay, next one. *thinking of what to do next* Ah yes! Simplest 3D works. Not the advanced one though, for that you'd need Photoshop 7, and I know Manzy has it. But Photoshop 7 lacks a few functions in 8 CS and 8 CS2. Okay, so this effect should be applicable in all Photoshops, I guess. >_>"
Step 1: Create a BLACK background. Any size is fine.
Step 2: Filter->Render->Lens Flare and place it anywhere in the document. Do a few of these, but not too much. At least 1 to 4 I guess, and don't place them too near each other, if you'd like try placing them in the corners.
Step 3: Do a Filter->Sketch->Chrome. Details should be 10, and Smoothness can range from 0 to 3, depends.
Step 4: Filter->Distort->Wave, and hit Randomize a few times. You'll get a random wavy thingie. If you're not happy with something simple like this, you can try other effects like Twirl.
Step 5: Hit Ctrl+U, and select Colorize. Any color would do. And then Ctrl+B, and do a color balance, play around until you get a color you like.
Step 6: Okay, now, if you're happy with it, leave it alone. If you're not, and if you only did 1 or 2 lens flares, duplicate the current layer and Go to Edit->Transform->Flip Horizontal/Vertical. And set the blending mode to either Overlay, or Soft Light.
Step 7: Save, and do what you want to it. Maybe even try the other stuff I had in the other tutorials.
And remember always save it as JPEG unless you are working on a few layers and you're not done, then you save it as PSD! ><
